Script Open Close: Sub> Jeonju Jeondong Catholic Church, the highlightof modern architecture Sub> Wansan-gu, Jeonju City, North Jeolla Province Sub> Wansan-gu District at which Gyeonggjeon Hall, Poongnammun Door and Hanok(or, the traditionalKorean house) village are located is the place where the new and the old are in harmony well. Sub> Jeonju City’s Jeondong Catholic Church, Historic Site No. 288 Sub> Jeondong Catholic Church is an architecture which was built to pay tribute to the Catholics massacred in the Joseon Dynasty(1932-1910). The cathedral, built in the place where those Catholics were executed was designed and supervised for construction by the French priest, Fr. Baudounet. Francois Xavier in 1947. Sub> Jeondong Catholic Church, the oldest Western-style modern architecture in Honam area(South and North Jeolla provinces) used the stones gathered up at a time when the Jeonju-eup Castle existed during the Japanese colonial rule was destroyed as its the foundation stones. Sub> The small belf towers are located at both sides of the Byzantinesque Belfry, which highlights the sense of rising of the building. Sub> In particular, the use of the round arch and the splendid stain glasses, etc which followed the Romanesque style is assessed as a masterpiece of the early Catholic Church Architecture for a perfect harmony of its various architectural elements. Content: This is a video clip which introduces the Jeondong Catholic Church which was built in order to pay tribute to the Catholicsmassacred in the Joseon Dynasty(1932-1910). The cathedral, built in a Romanesque fashion was designed and supervised for construction by the French priest, Fr. Baudounet. Francois Xavier in 1947. Jeondong Catholic Church was praised as one of the best beautiful buildings in the modern Korean architecture.
